Hello guys, Today I am going to explain about Oats (Avena sativa). You know?  Oats are among the healthiest grains on the earth. The recent studies show that oats have lots of health benefits. This include low blood sugar level, weight loss and reduced risk of heart diseases.

Oats are a type of cereal grain . People use them as food for themselves and other animals, for example, chickens and horses. Oatmeal is made from oats. Oat straw is used as bedding for animals.

Oatmeal

It is a meal made of oats. It is normally made for breakfast. Oatmeal can also be steel-cut oats, crushed oats, or rolled oats. Occasionally, brown sugar, honey, jelly, or other items are added to oatmeal. It makes a tasty treat for all to enjoy. It is looked forward to as a light meal. Consuming oatmeal is an easy way to add fiber to the diet. Fiber is an important tool for digestion, and the specific fibers in oats may be especially helpful for the liver. Oats and oatmeal are high in compounds called beta-glucans

  • Oats are rich in both soluble and insoluble fibre.
  • Oats are a place to get energy. As a rich place to get complex carbohydrates, they provide a slow release of energy over the morning – in that way they reduce the desire to eat ‘quick energy release’ sugar-based foods.
  • Oats are also a good place to get protein.
  • Oats are low in unsaturated fat and contain no cholesterol.
  • Oats are also a good place to get vitamin B1.
  • Oats contain many powerful antioxidants, including avenanthramides. These compounds may help reduce blood pressure and provide other benefits.
  • Oats are high in the soluble fiber beta-glucan and helps reduce cholesterol and blood sugar levels, promotes healthy gut bacteria and increases feelings of fullness.
  •  Oats may lower the risk of heart disease by reducing both total and  LDL cholesterol.

  3.  Magnesium: 34% of the RDI
  4.  Copper: 24% of the RDI
  5.  Iron: 20% of the RDI
  6.  Zinc: 20% of the RDI
  7.  Folate: 11% of the RDI
  8.  Vitamin B1 : 39% of the RDI
  9.  Vitamin B5 : 10% of the RDI
  10.  smaller amounts of Ca & K both total and LDL cholesterol.

Protein present in Oats

  • Oat is the only cereal having a globulin or legume-like protein, avenalin, as the major (80%) storage protein. Globulins can be taken up by weak salt water. The more common cereal proteins are gluten and zein. The minor protein of oat is avenin.
  • Oat protein is almost the same in quality as soy beanprotein, which has been shown by the world health organization to be equal to meat, milk,  and egg protein. The amount of protein of the hull-less oat kernel ranges from 12–24%, which is the highest among cereals.

Oats and Brain Health

Oats contains iron, zinc, potassium and B vitamins, nutrients that help brain development and help the brain  to function at full capacity. The fiber contained in oats will also help keep hunger at bay until your next meal.

Oats and Liver Health

oats are a source of prebiotic fiber that those live probiotics use to promote their growth. Think of prebiotics as 'probiotic boosters. ' Including both types in your diet ensures that you are covering all bases when it comes to being good to your gut.

Oats and Digestive Health

Soluble fiber, specifically beta-glucan, is the real star of the show when it comes to the health benefits of eating oatmeal. As it goes through the digestive system, it turns into a gel that slows digestion, keeping you feeling fuller longer. It's also a prebiotic, meaning it feeds the good bacteria in your gut.

Oats and Kidney Health

While oatmeal is higher in potassium and phosphorus than other hot cereals, it can still be part of a healthy kidney diet. A 1/2 cup serving of cooked oatmeal has 80 to 115 mg potassium and 90 to 130 mg phosphorus. However, part of the phosphorus is not absorbed because it is bound to phytates in the oat grains.
